Folklife!

Oh man, more clogging! Sunday morning, after very little sleep, Alison, Cameron and I drove to Seattle to make it in time for Tegan's clogging group's performance. It was so awesome! The highlight was when the women demonstrated "ham boning" which is using your hands and also paper bags as instruments- so funny! Tegan kept looking at me during it and that made me laugh more, it was great.
The performance was at Seattle's Folklife Festival, this is the first time I've been cause when I was in college I was always working on the weekends. I got a folklife shirt- how awesome would it be to wear it to my folklore orientation? Or perhaps people wouldn't get that I was joking- or worse, someone else would have one and be serious about it- that would be hilarious.

Sasquatch!!

On Saturday I went to the Sasquatch Music Festival with Alison and Cameron, pictured here with our sweet rental car. We met up with several other friends at the campground and at the show, which was at The Gorge Amphitheater, a beautiful location. The weather was sunny and warm- though I must still be acclimatized to more tropical locales, cause while I was comfortable and thought the weather was fantastic most everyone else was complaining that it was too hot.
Anyway, the music was amazing! We were in the amphitheater complex for about 13 hours, exhausting but excellent. We saw so much music it was overwhelming. The bands I had planned to see were The Blow, Ghostland Observatory, Neko Case, and Bjork, all of whom were great. The Blow- how can you not love a band whose singer is funny, self deprecating, and writes songs about those guys who yell at girls from their car windows? Ghostland Observatory are a great dance party van, and the keyboardist was wearing a blue cape- awesome! Neko Case was good, but the band was a bit thrown off cause their bass player was missing due to an injury. And of course- Bjork- how can anyone not love her? She's half fairy and completely adorable. Had another dance party to her set, which had a surprisingly high number of singles, a brass band with crazy costumes, and Bjork herself with her cute dance moves, fantastic music, and the way she said "thank you very much" after every song. I heart her. Only Bjork can look super cute no matter what she wears or does.

Anything but a cup.

Not only am I drinking out of a trophy, but it's a South Mebane Cloggers trophy- represent!

Japanese pastries!

Melonpan and anpan, oishii kata!

Uwajimaya- fun times!

After gorging ourselves on roasted corn and funnel cakes at the street fair, we went to Uwajimaya, the Asian supermarket in the International District. I went a bit nuts as they had all my favorite pastries, drinks, and junk food that I loved from Japan. I had to stop myself from buying one of everything. But mmm manju, somen, melon pan, Dars chocolate, yay! And lemon water, the drink that has saved me from many a hangover, ah how I've missed it! I felt like bursting into my pigeon Japanese in my happiness.

Seattle.... again

Cameron and I went up to Seattle this weekend as it was Tegan's 22nd birthday on Thursday, and the U district street fair on the weekend. It almost feels like I live there again with all these trips! Will be back there again on Sunday to see Tegan's clogging group perform at the folklife festival, after going to the Sasquatch music festival in the gorge on Saturday- the next few weeks are going to be very busy, but fun times. Here are Cam and Tegan at the new Japanese bakery on the ave- this weekend was very Japan-nostalgic for me!
