A sponsor donated 425 White Sox tickets to us TFA-ers, so I went with my ENC (Eastern North Carolina) crew, and actually had a good time! Who knew that I could enjoy myself at a baseball game! There was crazy music which I enjoyed, as I could have a dance party in my seat, to the amusement of my friends. There was beer, hanging out, and fireworks when the Sox got a homerun- fun! I did have a hard time understanding the scoreboard, and had to have it explained several times. My teacher friends were doing their best to Check for Understanding and all those good old TFA buzzwords, but I still needed an IEP (Individualized Lesson Plan. I also need one to understand the TAL- teaching as leadership rubric. Seriously, my CMA- corps member advisor- color coded mine for me so I could make some kind of sense out of it. Have I mentioned we speak mainly in acronyms?). For example, when they players were at bat, they bring their numbers on the screen, but instead of showing the whole number, they show one number at a time. And because the first 2 times I was paying attention to the big screen when this was happening, the numbers went 1....2... and then 2....3... So I thought they were counting down to the pitch or something. It wasn't until an hour and a half later, when I noticed the numbers were 1...4... that I finally realized it was just the players number. But I also learned that the E means errors- though I don't get why they keep track. And I don't understand all the stats and why they are in decimals- so confusing. Ah well, the beer drinking part and singing at the 7th stretch I can get into. Oh, and the Sox won of course. I now have a baseball team, woo! We were informed by Chcago folk that since we live and work on the South Side, we are required to be White Sox fans.

I just went cross eyed by that explanation. I went to see the hanshin tigers twice and paid no attention to the game at all, just drank and cheered a lot like all the Japanese around me. Was it good fun then?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got confused :-) It was great fun! How long are you gonna stay in Japan anyway?
